Modelling Photovoltaic Systems Using PSpice

Luis Castaner, "Modelling Photovoltaic Systems Using PSpice"
ISBN: 0470845279 | edition 2003 | PDF | 371 pages | 15 mb

Photovoltaics, the direct conversion of light from the sun into electricity, is an increasingly important means of distributed power generation. The SPICE modelling tool is typically used in the development of electrical and electronic circuits. When applied to the modelling of PV systems it provides a means of understanding and evaluating the performance of solar cells and systems.

Mathematics of Thermal Modeling

Author : John Dowden Year : 2001
The initial aim of this book is to describe the physical principles that need to be taken into account in modeling various aspects of laser material processing, and to formulate them in mathematical terms. The main purpose, however, is to show the way in which they can then be used to obtain insight into a number of processes by the construction of simple models whose underlying principles are easy to see.
The immediate applications of the general principles considered here are welding, surface treatment, drilling, forming, and cutting, but the general principles have a very wide application. Many aspects of the theory are relatively independent of the material under study, which could be a simple metal, a complicated alloy (such as those used in the aerospace industry), concrete, or plastic. Although all the examples considered in this book have the common feature that the source of power is a laser, and the power of the laser is relatively high, the principles and methods are very general and apply to thermal modeling in many different fields, from micro technology to laser medicine.

Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems

Javad Mohammadpour, Karolos M. Grigoriadis - Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems
Publisher: SÑ€ringer | 2010-07-09 | ISBN: 1441957561 | PDF | 200 pages | 3.40 MB

Complexity and dynamic order of controlled engineering systems is constantly increasing. Complex large scale systems (where "large" reflects the system’s order and not necessarily its physical size) appear in many engineering fields, such as micro-electromechanics, manufacturing, aerospace, civil engineering and power engineering. Modeling of these systems often result in very high-order models imposing great challenges to the analysis, design and control problems. "Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems" compiles state-of-the-art contributions on recent analytical and computational methods for addressing model reduction, performance analysis and feedback control design for such systems. Also addressed at length are new theoretical developments, novel computational approaches and illustrative applications to various fields, along with: - An interdisciplinary focus emphasizing methods and approaches that can be commonly applied in various engineering fields -Examinations of applications in various fields including micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), manufacturing processes, power networks, traffic control "Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems" is an ideal volume for engineers and researchers working in the fields of control and dynamic systems.

Small-Scale Synthesis of Laboratory Reagents with Reaction Modeling

Leonid Lerner, "Small-Scale Synthesis of Laboratory Reagents with Reaction Modeling"
Publisher: CRC | ISBN: 1439813124 | edition 2011 | PDF | 240 pages | 18.6 mb

The in-lab preparation of certain chemical reagents provides a number of advantages over purchasing various commercially prepared samples. This is especially true in isolated regions where acquiring the necessary substances from overseas can cause undue delay and inconvenience due to restrictions on the transportation of hazardous chemicals. An invaluable resource for chemists in a variety of environments, Small-Scale Synthesis of Laboratory Reagents with Reaction Modeling presents efficient, sensible, and versatile methods for the laboratory preparation of common chemical reagents.

Rapid, reliable synthesis

Designed to facilitate smooth experimentation in the lab, this volume presents preparations chosen for their short duration, availability of apparatus, high yield, and high purity of the product. Adding an educational component, the book also discusses fundamental processes in inorganic chemistry, presenting original modeling of reactions and their practical implementation. Theoretical aspects are discussed to a greater extent than is usual in synthetic literature in cases where there is a direct impact on experimental parameters, such as the reaction time, yield, and purity of the product.

More than 30 convenient, time-saving preparations

Focusing on simple synthesis of high-purity reagents, the book contains over 30 presentations, a substantial number of which are mathematically modeled for the first time. Most syntheses can be carried out in one day using common laboratory equipment, making this volume a valuable and time-saving tool.

Multiscale Materials Modelling

Multiscale Materials Modelling
Woodhead Publishing Ltd | June 30, 2007 | ISBN-10: 1845690710 | 312 pages | PDF | 6.5 Mb

Multiscale materials modelling offers an integrated approach to modelling material behaviour across a range of scales from the electronic, atomic and microstructural up to the component level. As a result, it provides valuable new insights into complex structures and their properties, opening the way to develop new, multi-functional materials together with improved process and product designs. Multiscale materials modelling summarises some of the key techniques and their applications. The various chapters cover the spectrum of scales in modelling methodologies, including electronic structure calculations, mesoscale and continuum modelling. The book covers such themes as dislocation behaviour and plasticity as well as the modelling of structural materials such as metals, polymers and ceramics. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Multiscale materials modelling will be a valuable reference for both the modelling community and those in industry wanting to know more about how multiscale materials modelling can help optimise product and process design.

Mathematical Modeling: A Chemical Engineer's Perspective

Mathematical Modeling: A Chemical Engineer's Perspective
Academic Press | June 25, 1999 | ISBN-10: 0126045852 | 479 pages | DJVU | 11.25 MB

Mathematical modeling is the art and craft of building a system of equations that is both sufficiently complex to do justice to physical reality and sufficiently simple to give real insight into the situation. Mathematical Modeling: A Chemical Engineer's Perspective provides an elementary introduction to the craft by one of the century's most distinguished practitioners.
Though the book is written from a chemical engineering viewpoint, the principles and pitfalls are common to all mathematical modeling of physical systems. Seventeen of the author's frequently cited papers are reprinted to illustrate applications to convective diffusion, formal chemical kinetics, heat and mass transfer, and the philosophy of modeling. An essay of acknowledgments, asides, and footnotes captures personal reflections on academic life and personalities.
* Describes pitfalls as well as principles of mathematical modeling
* Presents twenty examples of engineering problems
* Features seventeen reprinted papers
* Presents personal reflections on some of the great natural philosophers
* Emphasizes modeling procedures that precede extensive calculations
